BBFC Talk

Yesterday we attended a talk at FACT in Liverpool, the talk consisted of general information about the BBFC as well as a brake down of how they protect children from unsuitable and even harmful content in films and videos by classification. We found out that they watch films and videos all the way through and award an age rating and insight to each one. (BBFC webpage) "We reach an age rating by applying the standards and criteria contained in our Classification Guidelines." They look at issues such as discrimination, drugs, horror, dangerous and easily imitable behaviour, language, nudity, sex, and violence when making decisions. The theme of the work is also an important consideration.  The talk was very interesting as it opened my eyes to the wide ranges of work within the industry that are not just in front or behind the camera.
Moreover we were indulged in information about the age ratings that are due to be added to music videos. You can find more about this in my previous blog post: http://paddybrennanalevelmedia.blogspot.com/2015/09/age-classification-on-music-videos.html
